I found some incredible statistics, and some shockingly different from my expectations around how the internet performed in 2016. From these statistics the most interesting to me was the rapid mobile infiltration and online retail sales. I did not know that over 68% of internet users accessed the internet using a mobile device. I also could not believe that USD $2.2 million was generated in online retail sales.
Another interesting point is how active spammers, hackers and malware is on the net. Statistically we are definitely more vulnerable than we think.
A last thing that is worth mentioning is website speed and reliability. I know that many companies try save money by hosting sites with cheaper and sometimes slower hosts. According to the statistics one second delay in a website loading time can result in a 7% loss in conversion, and 40% of web users will abandon a website if it takes longer than 3 seconds to load.
